Radical changes coming to Super League
IN order to expose the players to a greater variety of cricket, the National Super League committee headed by Patrick Rampersad has decided to mix the teams from all zones for the 2004 Sunday League series.
Rampersad, speaking to Newsday yesterday, said: “We always try to do something different that we think would develop and promote the game of cricket in Trinidad and Tobago. “We have decided that for the next season we will mix the clubs so that the players would come up against different competition. “The clubs said they were a bit fed-up of playing the same teams over and over, so we got the idea that we can put different teams into groups of six and play the tournament with the same 24 teams as before.” The Sunday League will bowl off on January 25, while the mid-week 30-overs series will start on February 17.
The League competition which will remain as before with the teams zoned, gets going on February 29. “We have decided to leave the league as is because the teams play here for promotion to the national league. “The limited overs will be changed and as a matter of fact it is just the Sunday League that we are going to change,” Rampersad said. Since his ascendency to the post of chairman of the Super League, Rampersad has been able to lift the level of the game and has won the admiration of many for his hard work.
