Grande n-ball girls swamp PIL 52-0

SANGRE GRANDE Institute swamped Pentecostal Institute of Learning (PIL) 52-0 in what is a record in the second year of the British Gas-sponsored Secondary Schools Netball League.

Goal-shoot Murlin Paul scored 31 goals from 53 attempts in the East zone match at the Arima Public Courts on Thursday afternoon.  Aviann Archie added 21 goals from 32 attempts for the winners who now advance to the national finals. They will be joined by zonal runners-up Toco Composite who were 26-17 winners over San Juan Secondary. Zola Modeste scored 13 goals from 19 attempts and Tracey Courtney also got 13 goals but from 21 attempts. Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive played through their schedule unbeaten to top the South East zone ahead of San Fernando East Junior Secondary. And in the South West zone, Fyzabad Composite are the champs with Cedros Composite the runners-up. Defending national princesses Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive completed their six-match schedule unbeaten after a 36-9 rout of Diego Martin Secondary in Group Y on Thursday at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex.

Afeisha Noel scored 32 goals from 42 attempts and Akeisha Mark had four from nine attempts for the winners.  Kelly Ann Francis netted six goals and Renee Cornwell three for the Diego girls. But Success/Laventille Composite who did not play on Thursday, will join Mucurapo Senior in the national finals. And in Group X, Diego Martin Junior Secondary beat Excel Composite 19-13 in a close game with Ahsha McDowell scoring ten goals and Onika Borel nine for Diego, while Makeda Kling got 11 and Laverne Berkley two for Excel. The winners and runners-up in the two North zone groups (four teams), along with the winners and runners-up of the other zones will form a 12-team league to compete on a home-and-away basis for the national championship title in January. Afeisha Noel (Mucurapo Junior) was the top shoot in the North zone Group Y with 203 goals, averaging 78.68 goals per game.  Tranquillity’s K’Lene Lewis was next with 81 goals, but St Martin’s Adasha Norton who scored 68 goals was next best on average 72.34. Nariba Grant (Mucurapo Senior)  was the top shooter in Group X with 117 goals at an average of 75.98 followed by teammate Annola Camejo on 57, but Rhonique Williams (SEPoS) who was fourth highest goalscorer with 48 goals, had a better shooting-average 73.85 than Camejo 69.51.

National finalists Are: Mucurapo Senior, Mucurapo Jnr, Success/Laventille; Diego Martin Jnr (North); Pleasantville, San Fernando East (South East); San gre Grande, Toco (East); Fyzabad, Cedros (South West); Holy Faith, Carapichaima (Central).
