Austrian Chess coach in TT

SENIOR and junior chess players are currently benefitting from the expertise and skill of Austrian coach Martin Neubauber who arrived in Trinidad and Tobago last week.

Neubauber is presently conducting a training programme with the players, who will form the core of the national team for the 2004 Chess Olympiad. His trip was made possible due to the assistance of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs while persons interested in the course can contact Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association president Bhisham Soondarsingh at 622-8505.

In related news, national chess king Christo Cave is the sole leader of the National Swiss Open tournament, sponsored by the National Gas Company, currently underway at the Rhand Credit Union’s rooftop, Port-of-Spain. Cave, a national master, defeated both Joffrey Marcelle and Dr Eddison Chang during last weekend’s action, and now lead the standings with four points from four matches. Cecil Lee, who was the joint leader with Cave, dropped a vital half point. Venezuelan-born Cesar Ramos eased past Nigerian Adebayo.
