Ramos starts chess title defence

KNIGHTS champion Cesar Ramos whipped Errol Dulgar in first round chess action in the Singho Restaurant-sponsored five-round Swiss Tournament.

With his title on the line, Ramos cruised past Dulgar, while ex-national king Eddison Raphael beat Patrick Anthony. There are 15 chess players vying for the title and the winner’s prize of a dinner for two at the restaurant. Sherwin Duke collected full points when Jesse Sudan defaulted their game, but John Everon got past club secretary Shamnah Khan. David Maynard got the better of Arlene Blackman and Ian Ramrattan beat Alpacino Smith. Louis Qwiltshire stopped Christopher Raphael, while Vandoff Asmith was on a first round bye.
