Gala AIDS presentation at UWI on Sunday
Ella Andall, Shadow, Three Canal and the University of the West Indies Arts in Action group will perform at Gala Enterprises presentation of “AIDS 03 Stigma and Discrimination” at UWI School of Continuing Studies Auditorium, Gordon Street, St Augustine on Sunday. The event coincides with World AIDS Day on December 1. Director of the Medical Research Foundation, Professor Courtenay Bartholomew is scheduled to deliver an address. The show, produced by Cacique Award winner Gervon Abraham will look at acceptance that HIV/AIDS exists, identification of its causes and effects, dissemination of information and sensitisation.
Gala is founded on the ideology that drama/theatre is an equally effective vehicle for education and sensitisation on critical social issues when compared to the commonly used chalk and blackboard approach. It has chosen HIV/AIDS as its focus and receipts are to be donated to an AIDS related cause. The contribution is $50 per person. For further information the public can contact—683-5540 or the Centre for Festival and Creative Arts at 663-2222 or 645-3232 ext 2510.
