Miami poses as chosen FTAA headquarters

THE EDITOR: It seems based on the article emailed to you ‘move over Miami’ that Miami already considers itself as the headquarters of the FTAA. I don’t know the thinking of TT in this regard except for the fact that they are assured of the Caricom members vote. However, what I find interesting in the article is the paragraphs which speaks about the number of flights which go to other countries being a very important factor in the whole equation and the number of translators available in the city which would house the headquarters. What is TT’s position on this? Hotel accommodation and the weather are also an important factor in the whole scenario.

Mr Editor, is the TT representative really reporting what is the thinking in Miami? I believe if he is there would be a totally different position on this matter. Miami already has a committee which has identified several locations as sites, the state has already pledged so many millions, private enterprises have also chipped in a huge way financially and they are behaving as if it is foregone that the site would be in Miami. I was at home over the past two days and I heard that the government intends to inform the people in due course about the FTAA. This is when all other cities in the race have passed that stage. Even Panama considers itself tops in the race. Let’s see how it finishes.
