US, UK: TT remains secure

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO continues to receive an acceptable security rating from the American State Department and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). In a bulletin dated November 24, 2003, the State Department said: “In general, Trinidad and Tobago is considered safe. Non-violent demonstrations occur on occasion but civil disorder is not considered a threat.” The British FCO, in its latest advisory stated: “There has been no recent history of terrorism in Trinidad and Tobago, although an Islamic group, the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen, attempted to overthrow the Government by force in 1990.” However the British FCO urged British citizens travelling to TT to “take sensible precautions” and “be aware of the risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks.”
