Carenage man charged with sexual assault of schoolgirl

A Carenage man has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a person under the age of 14 years yesterday. The man, 22, who first appeared at the Chaguaramas Magistrate’s Court before Debra Quintin on Monday was charged for the incident which took place between August and November in a house at Carenage. According to reports, police on enquiries in the area went to a house and came upon the couple. When questioned, the man said the minor was his girlfriend. Further investigations were made and it was discovered that the schoolgirl was 13. The matter was transferred on Monday to the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim, who adjourned it to January 24, 2004. The man was denied bail. Constable Worrell of the Carenage police laid the charge.
