Prison van with prisoners runs off the road
Twelve prisoners returning from the Mayaro court had to seek medical attention at the Sangre Grande district hospital after the official prison transport van in which they were travelling ran off the Cocal main road at Manzanilla en route to the Sangre Grande police station. The van ended up on its side off the road. According to information, the “Justice on Time” Amalgamated Security Ltd vehicle was travelling north along the Manzanilla road in the Cocal district when the van skidded on the edge of the road and capsized in the nearby drain, spinning over several times injuring the passengers.
Police and prison officers who were on board quickly pulled the screaming prisoners out and contacted the police stations at Sangre Grande and Mayaro. Both stations quickly dispatched vehicles to the scene, and took the injured prisoners to the hospital where they were treated and discharged. The driver, the police and prison officers on board received no injuries. Police sources confirmed while there were no serious injuries among the prisoners, an investigation will commence.
