Arneaud returns, Chris Jadoo makes debut

JOCKEY Jody Arneaud will be returning to the saddle tomorrow and will have the leg up on runners in three supporting features on the Arima Race Club Day 36 programme at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

Arneaud, who was given a five day suspension by the ARC stewards for careless riding aboard Beautiful Mind, makes his return after serving only four days of his ban. The ex-champion apprentice applied through the Racehorse Trainers Association Owners for a reduction in sentence, and had his suspension reduced by one day earlier this month by the Trinidad and Tobago Racing Authority. He was however given a stern warning and further told the decision was not to  be interpreted as a precedent. The TTRA also asked that he take the necessary precaution to avoid infringements and to ride in a manner which will be both competitive and fair to opposing riders. Arneaud who scored 10 wins from 88 rides so far this season will face the starter five times tomorrow. He will first have the leg up on Tricky Guy, before he partners Fortunate Flag in the Mackeson Stout Starter Allowance event.

The young rider will next be seen aboard All Set To Battle in the Malta Carib Trophy Caribbean Juvenile Sprint, then Super Grey in the Shandy Carib Handicap before opposing Top Of The Class astride Phantom Menace in the feature Carib Brewery Limited Trophy Caribbean Champion Stakes. There will be a fresh face on the scene tomorrow, when Christopher Jadoo, son of light-weight rider Kennedy Jadoo and nephew of top jockey Ricardo Jadoo, makes his debut aboard Bajan Connection in the fifth race of the day. The youngster was only granted an apprentice rider’s licence earlier this month. Two familiar jockeys, who return home regularly at the back end of every season,  after riding aboard are also down to make appearances on the Carib Brewery Limited-sponsored 10-race programme. Rene Latchman who won the jockeys’ championship at Marcus Downs racecourse in Canada, and Anthony Stephen who has been riding at another track in Canada were each afforded three rides.

Meanwhile, there were some very sharp gallops at Santa Rosa Park yesterday morning. Fabulous Risk stepped lively on the sand track made firm by overnight rain, covering 400 metres in 24.05 seconds, but best run on the morning came from Ooze who is entered for the Stag Trophy Imported Juvenile Sprint over 1200 metres.  This American-bred colt zipped along 400 metres in 23.14 seconds, with unraced Aishwarya clocking 23.76 for the same trip. Sweet Tempo had the best clocking over 600 metres with a time of 35.26 seconds, while Mir On Fire was timed in 36.42 and Le Fabuleux 36.32 over the same trip.
