Servol youths told — success is an attitude
Success or failure is caused more by mental attitude than by mental capacity, and positive outcomes are the results of positive attitudes and positive thinking, says businessman/entrepreneur, Langston Roach.
Roach, the architect of his own outstanding success, spoke of his practical experience to participants — 220 young men and women ranging in age 16 to 19 years — of the Servol South Zone, La Romaine. The theme of the Interactive Day was “Choose your Skill,” and those in attendance were drawn from Servol’s Adolescent Development Programme. Roach is chairman and managing director of Langston Roach Industries Ltd which has grown from cottage status in 1985, into a giant manufacturer of over 100 household and personal products — like Lanher and Soft n Silky — on a three and a half acre plant in San Juan. He told his young audience that “people can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind,” and at the same time warned that negative thinking results in negative behaviour, habits, and outcomes.
Roach said “a person’s attitude is not predisposed. It is something over which they have control. It can be developed or altered to achieve mastery in personal and professional life.” He told the young people “much of your experiences may have been negative. Unfortunately, our environment, our community, our society is replete with negative influences. There is nothing you can do to change your experience. But now you stand on the threshold of adulthood, contemplating your future. There is a message I want to leave with you today. And it is this. Your past need not determine your future. Only the present does. If you are not satisfied with the state of your life, you can change it.
“The state of your life is a reflection of the state of your mind. It is a manifestation of how you think. If you want to change your life for the better, you can. If you want to be successful, you can be. You have the ability to choose. You have within you the power of greatness. You can rise above your present circumstances and achieve that which your heart desires. “But first you must make a decision today to change how you think. Be positive. Tell yourself you can and you will. “Failure is not a permanent condition until you accept it to be so,” Roach told his young audience.
