Three robbed in ten hours

THREE robberies within ten hours yesterday spoilt what St Joseph police considered an otherwise quiet night.

In the first robbery at 9.10 pm, Milan Sooting, 51, was robbed of her purple Hyundai Elantra motorcar by three armed men. Two hours later, University of the West Indies student Omeidath Maharaj, 19,  was robbed of jewelry and cash a short distance from the university, and just under eight hours later, Paul Sahadeo, 28, was robbed of cash and jewelry walking along Frederick Street, Curepe.

In the first instance, Sooting of Mendez Drive, Champs Fleurs, a registrar with UWI, was sitting in her car which was parked on McDonald Street, Curepe, when a dark skinned man walked up to her, pointed a gun and demanded the keys for the car. The frightened woman handed over the keys and the gunman together with a fair skinned man entered the $70,000 car and drove off.

In the second matter, Maharaj was proceeding South along Evans Street, Curepe, just outside the fence of the university when two men, one armed with a gun, walked up to him and demanded cash and jewelry. Maharaj, of Macoya Road, Tunapuna, handed over a Holy Faith Convent engraved gold ring, another gold ring engraved with the TT National flag, a phone, a pair of glasses and $47 cash together valued $3,047. The men ran off in a nearby street.

In the third robbery, Sahadeo of Bassie Street Extension, Spring Village, Valsayn East, was walking south along Frederick Street when two men, one armed with a gun, walked up to him, pointed the firearm at the man and demanded cash and money. Sahadeo handed over his chain with a gold pendant and $38 cash. The men then escaped by running into Riverside Road, Curepe. Senior officers confirmed to Newsday that with the heavy volume of crime in the district, this was considered a very quiet night. Ag Cpl Douglas and Constables Dardaine and Ramey are investigating the robberies.
