Man charged with vehicular manslaughter of wife

JUST over a year after the death of his common-law wife in a vehicular accident, 38-year-old Deolal Bachan yesterday appeared before a San Fernando magistrate charged with motor-manslaughter of his common-law wife. Bachan appeared in the San Fernando First Court before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Welli-ngton.

Bachan is charged with causing the death of his common-law wife and mother of eight, Chandardaye Mungroo, who died on the spot, following a vehicular accident on August 25, 2002, in Gasparillo. The charge was laid indictably and Bachan was not called upon to enter a plea. He was subsequently granted $80,000 bail. Gasparillo police officer PC Mohammed charged Bachan. It was only on Thursday that Bachan was arrested and the charge laid by PC Mohammed of the Gasparillo Police Station. Bachan will reappear in court on December 8.
