Mayaro man fined for poaching

A Mayaro man, Eric Mitchell yesterday pleaded guilty to poaching in the Trinity Hills Game Sanctuary, and was fined $4,000 to be paid forthwith.

Mitchell’s arrest followed an exercise on Sunday in the Trinity Hills  Sanctuary in Guayaguayare. Senior game warden Samsundar Ramdeen coordinated the exercise which started at 5 am and ended at 10.30 pm Sunday. The exercise was undertaken after a week of surveillance work. The lawmen arrested Mitchell, seized two unlicensed firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition.

The raiding party was comprised of game wardens, honorary game wardens and policemen from the Firearm Interdiction Unit.” The senior game warden said that the exercise was headed by the acting conservator of forests, Anthony Ramnarine, who is also the Chief Game Warden. Senior game warden Ramdeen praised the contributions of the police officers from the Firearms Interdiction Unit. “Without their assistance, we wouldn’t have been able to make such a breakthrough,” he said. Policemen who took part in the exercise were Acting Inspector Phillip, Cpl Dookie and Constables Simon and Maharaj.
