Griffith speeds to Hand Arnold Scalextric crown

CLIVE GRIFFITH collected a big $3,000 cheque donated by Hand Arnold (Trinidad) Limited after driving by his challengers in the Open Category in the Champion of Champions Scalextric series at Trincity Mall.

Griffith totalled 78.6 points on Saturday to be a clear winner of  the event from Jenelle Joseph who managed 76.6 points in a close finish for the silver. Bronze medallist was Sayyad Khan who posted 76.4 points, while Marilyn Peters was fourth with 75.1.

Apart from getting the $3,000 cheque from Michelle La Guerre of Hand Arnold, Griffith got the Malta Carib Trophy and gold medal. And he returned later to cop the coveted Big Teacher’s Race to collect the 4.5 litre of Teacher’s Scotch Whisky and mount, which he received from Hand Arnold representative Peter de Montbrun. But Junior Joseph won the Champion of Champ-ions race for a third time in a row when he scored 80.1 points, beating Peter de Montbrun into second on 75.1 with Derek La Guerre getting bronze with 69.9 popints. Ravindra Maharaj was fourth with 68.7 points.

Castrol representative Sunil George, Scalextric Under-19 king in 1992 and ’93 presented the winner with gallons of Castrol.  Other finalists also received Castrol prizes. By his victory on Saturday, Joseph will now be the Trinidad and Tobago representative at the Caribbean Champion-ships in Guyana next year in the 15-75 age group. Stefan Bissoondial will be the Under-15 representative at the championships which are scheduled for August next.
