Harry Ramdhanie honoured for services
Ceramic Trinidad Merryboys Cricket team has honoured long serving club administrator Harry Ramdhanie.
This was done at at their annual prize giving ceremony on Saturday night at the Diego Martin Community Centre, Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard. Ramdhanie played for the club when it was formed many years ago and was one of the first player to represent the Patna area at cricket. A teacher by profession, Ramdhanie was instrumental in getting the young boys of the area to come out and play cricket. “When I started off playing cricket for Merryboys the team were really a pick-up side with only a few serious cricketers. The others were merely there to make up the numbers. But you know what, we started a club that is now the national champions of Trinidad and Tobago,” Ramdhanie said.
“One thing we had in our time was a lot of discipline and respect shown by the players. Although they were no world beaters, they stuck to their cricket and played the game very hard. They were disciplined and this brought them some measure of success,” he said. “Today the team is truly a great one and for this we must thank the executive of the club led by the ever-present and hardworking Patrick Rampersad. He has really done so much for this club that he must be respected by all because we owe him a great deal of gratitude. “I want to tell you players of today that you are playing for a club with a lot of history and you must go out there proud to represent Merryboys and by extension the Diego Martin Community,” Ramdhanie said.
