Bandits take $1.2M in electronics
A security officer and his partner remained tied up for hours while bandits cleared out the G&L Ltd warehouse at Warrenville, Charlieville Village, Uriah Butler Highway of over $1.2 million in electronic equipment, after being duped by two rain-drenched women.
According to reports, at around 1 am yesterday Andre Duncan, 52, was at the security tower overlooking the warehouse when he observed two rain-drenched women come to the gate. The women beckoned him to come to them and he obliged. They told him that their boyfriends had left them there and they wanted to shelter from the rain. As Duncan opened the gate, two men came out of the shadows, stuck a gun in his face and ordered him back into the compound. The men then robbed Duncan of $500, tied up him and his partner and stuffed them into a dog kennel. They then made a hole in the eastern side of the ceiling and took $75,000 cash from a draw which represented the day’s sales. The bandits then used several trucks to move out $1.2 million in electronic goods, which represented the company’s Christmas stocks. The security officers, who could only listen as the vehicles moved about, eventually released themselves and contacted police, but by then the trucks were gone. The police and fingerprint experts visited the scene.
A dejected Jameel Hasan, general manager of GL Limited, said he was fed up of the crime situation and was contemplating closing shop and migrating. “Just last week we had a hit in Tunapuna, now comes this. “We were virtually cleaned out, that was our Christmas stocks. “I have lost faith in our security system. Imagine my officers remained here tied for three hours and not one police passed. “I have lost close to $1.5 million and I am really contemplating folding up and leaving this country.” Hasan admitted his decision to leave will be taken after discussions with his family. Visiting the scene were Sgts Anjit Persad and Dennis Housend, Corporal Nicolas Aguillera and Constable Clint Langley. Cpl Aguillera is investigating.
