Foul smell in Arima
THE residents of Malabar Road, Arima, are upset over a foul smell coming from a malfunctioning septic tank at a nearby nightclub which is making life unbearable for them.
In addition to the defective septic tank, the residents are also upset about what they claim is noise pollution coming from the nightclub. A spokesperson for the residents told Newsday that the faulty septic tank was leaking effluent onto the properties of residents, especially after a heavy rainfall. The spokesperson added that this faulty septic tank has been a problem in the community for the last five years and has become a source of air pollution. “We’ve complained to the Arima Borough Corporation on numerous occasions over the last five years and nothing has been done about it,” one of the frustrated residents said. Another resident revealed that the owner has, in the past, hired a WASA truck to clean out the septic tank but within a month’s time, the problem resurfaces. The residents have written to both the Police Complaints Authority and the Ombudsman Office about the situation.
