Have a ‘Friday Lime’ with Kalyan

KALYAN is making up  into a smart performer and is fancied to continue on the upgrade in the Sneaker  Pimps Allowance feature on the Arima Race Club “Friday Lime” card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today.

The 1750-metres event looks a good opportunity for the Edmund De Freitas-trained three-year-old to score for the second time this season, following her maiden victory in July from a slow start. She ran up to her mark in her last three outings finishing on board on each occasion. Kalyan did little wrong in the last two and was beaten by better horses, both of whom are highly thought of and would be stepping up in grade to compete against top company over the Christmas meeting. The daughter of Jules/Ivordance should have progressed further, which will make her hard to beat in today’s race.

The Chairman is of real interest in the Bruc three-year-old West Indian bred maiden race, the first of two supporting events on the eight-race programme. The Kenneth De Silva Jnr-trained colt lost all chance at the start of  his first two races, but broke smartly and showed the blinding speed he is noted for in his last outing, only giving away to Phenomenon close home. This Native Idol/Queen N’Chacon offspring is nicely drawn on the outside and is expected to confirm his promise by making every yard of the running in the 1100 dash. It could pay to side with Jack Debideen’s Over And Above one race later, the Good Luck event for West Indian-bred two-year-old maidens. Debideen has not had a good season with his crop of youngsters this year, but has a good strike-rate with his first time starters.

The Barbadian-bred grandson of Nosferatu has shown some good signs on the exercise course and could develop into a smart performer. He is worth keeping an eye on.  “The Lime” which begins at 1.10 pm is expected to be hectic with members of the some of the international rugby teams participating in the Carib-sponsored Rugby 7s Tournament over the weekend in attendance. The atmosphere will have a party-like flavour between races, with music being supplied by a disc jockey and live performances by Iwer George, Ninja and Sherwin Winchester.
