Man hangs himself over jail term

A Four Roads man hanged himself early yesterday morning due to what police believe was fear of a pending jail term.

Jason Rodriguez, 24, was found hanging from an electrical cord in his bedroom three hours after he told his father to check on him. According to reports, the unemployed man of Franklyn Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin, had grown depressed recently when a Port-of-Spain magistrate ordered him to pay $6,000 compensation or face 18 months imprisonment for ass-aulting his mother, Lucinta Campbell.
His parents are separated. As the three weeks he was given to pay drew to a close, Rodriguez became more depressed.
