Caroni man held in housewife’s murder
A 23-year-old suspect in the murder of St Helena housewife Narwatee Sundar was arrested at his Caroni home yesterday.
Homicide officers, acting on a tip, went to a Caroni house where the suspect was held. He was taken to the Chaguanas Police Station where he was quizzed by homicide officers. Newsday was informed that Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson will be consulted today on how to proceed with the matter. Police investigators were able to match prints found on louvre panes at the murder scene which led to a warrant being issued for the arrest of the man. The man was reportedly in hiding.
Sundar, 48, a mother of four, was found dead at her Kelly Village home last Tuesday. Her throat was slit and she was stabbed about 20 times. Sundar was supposed to give evidence at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court yesterday against an ex-convict of the area. The man had broken into her home earlier this year and robbed her of a quantity of valuables. Sundar had complained to relatives about threats to her life. Police investigators believe that the killer removed louvre panes, entered Sundar’s home, stabbed her and then fled the scene.
