Dolsingh back to prosecute in fraud case
AFTER almost 15 months in private practice, former Deputy DPP Rangee Dolsingh has been granted “fiat” by DPP Geoffrey Henderson to prosecute in a “larceny by servant” matter.
Dolsingh will act in the capacity of prosecutor in a case involving former accountant of the Comprehensive Insurance Bro-kers Ltd, Dennis Affonso. The company is located at St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain. Affonso, of Tumpuna Square, Arima, was charged with 31 counts of “larceny by servant.” It was alleged that between September and December, 2001, Affonso stole large sums of money from his employers. He was arrested and charged by WPC Maxwell of the Fraud Squad.
When the matter was called yesterday morning at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ First Court by Clerk of the Peace Ramnarine Sieunarine, it was stood down until 1 pm because Magistrate Ejenny Espinet, who was reportedly ill was not present in court at the time. Affonso, who was out on bail, at 1pm was informed that Espinet was still not there and his matter had been adjourned to March 8, 2004, by Sieunarine. Affonso is being represented by attorney Ravi Rajcoomar.
