V-ball women battle for crown
Defending champions Gla-morgan Volleyball Club are set to defend their Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF) national women’s club championship crown against the much improved Starlings Volleyball outfit.
The final is carded for tomorrow at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena (CRISA), Saith Park, Chag-uanas from 4 pm. The star-studded Glamorgan team led by national stars Aisha Sealy, KellyAnn Billingy, Jenna Ferguson, Marina Camps, were forced into a five-setter by Apex before emerging victorious in their semi-final clash on Wednesday night. The Macsood-Ali coached team triumphed at 25-23, 13-25, 20-25, 25-12,15-9. Sarah Jean Mungroo was the outstanding player for Apex. On the other hand, Starlings, paced by national star blocker Nadiege Honore and former national junior player Michele Mohan, and the Woodroofe sisters — Stephanie and Pauline —proved too much for Challengers and disposed of them in three straight sets at 25-23, 25-9, 25-21.
The men’s semi-finals were staged last evening at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports arena, Pleasantville. In the first match, Glamorgan played Technocrats while Southern United battled with SEPOS later on. Glamorgan depended on national senior and junior captains Mark Daley and Sean Morrison as well as national senior setter Saleem Ali and national senior libero Kevin Edwards while Technocrats had national power players Keegan Garcia and David Thomas. Veteran national outside hitter Nigel Purcell spearheaded the Southern United frontline against national vice-captain Nolan Tash who was the key player for SEPOS.
