Fr Ross’ funeral tomorrow

Founder of the Cyril Ross Home for children with HIV/AIDS in Tunapuna, Fr Cyril Ross, passed away on December 3, as a result of declining health ailments.

Fr Ross died at the age of 70, and according to Monsignor Christian Perreira, he has left a void which cannot be easily filled. Cyril Anthony Ross was born in Belmont in 1933, and was ordained a priest after completing the required studies at the Regional Seminary on August 8, 1961. He served as parish priest in Diego Martin in 1962, and in 1963 he was transferred to the Holy Cross Parish in Santa Cruz.

In 1971, he was assigned to the St Charles Parish in Tunapuna where he spent four years, until he was transferred to the St Francis Parish in Belmont where he was also appointed rector of the Regional Seminary. Fr Ross was also the first local priest to head the Catholic Education Board of Management, as well as the Chairman of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission. In 1979 he suffered a stroke, but upon returning to duties, he suffered yet another stroke, and was unable to complete his term as rector. The funeral of Fr Ross will take place tomrrow  at 10 am, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
