Gang kills D’Abadie man who loved liming

Two people have been held for questioning into the death of a 35-year-old D’Abadie man. Dead is Everald Gill  of Red Hill, D’Abadie. Gill was a labourer at Bestcrete. Reports state that he was liming at the La Luna Bar on the Eastern Main Road Arouca at 5.30 am yesterday.

According to the reports, he got into an argument with a group of people who were liming at the bar and the group attempted to attack him. Gill ran away from the group of six men and one woman in a effort to get away from the altercation. However the group went after him. Gill had only reached the opposite side of the road near Kantack Plaza, when the group caught up with him and began to beat him. Eyewitnesses to the incident said Gill was kicked, cuffed and stabbed by his attackers and died on the spot. Reports reaching Sunday Newsday state that Gill’s attackers took his lifeless body and threw it in the road, shortly after which a passing car ran over the body.

When Sunday Newsday visited Gill’s home in D’Abadie, his two children, a boy and a girl ages 6 and 9, played while other relatives were too distraught to speak to the media. However, his brother  Calvin Gill mustered up the courage and came forward. According to Calvin, his brother was a loving person who never bothered anybody. “He was a limer. He loved to party. But he was never a problem person. He was a good father and he always provided for his children. They did not take the news of his death very well.” Asked if he knew what the altercation was about, the brother of the deceased said “I am not too sure. Maybe he was heckling the woman in the group and they decided to beat him. But seven to one? That is real advantage. My brother did really love life. Those people could have just walked away.”

Another relative, Valerie Gill, said she had seen Everald the night before he met his death and said she begged him to go to a BBQ with her. “But he really loved to lime. He said he would see me the next day.”
The cries of Everald’s mother, May Gill rang out through the small community. “Everald! Everald, where you? Answer me nah boy!”
