Faulty wiring to blame for Laventille fire
Fire Prevention Officers are blaming faulty electrical wiring for the cause of the fire in which 83-year-old Alma Millington was burnt to death on Sunday.
Millington’s husband Norlton Thomas survived the flames but the house was destroyed. The woman was trapped by the fire which is believed to have started in the bedroom of her home at around 3 am. Thomas said that when he attempted to rescue Millington, he was prevented from doing so by the rapidly spreading flames. The charred body of Millington was removed from the house by undertakers. Yesterday, fire prevention officers returned to the scene of the fire and together with an official of the electrical inspectorate, carried out tests. Officers believe that a spark on the electricity line may have ignited a curtain in the house.
