Four wins for Ramgeet
CHESTER, West Virginia: Jamaican jockey Andrew Ramgeet had a fruitful weekend in Mountaineer Park horse racing, riding four winners to jump from eighth to sixth in the championship standings.
Ramgeet had two winners last Saturday and logged another double on Sunday to lift his season’s tally to 22 winners at the two-month-old meet. In Saturday’s first race over one mile, Ramgeet drove the two-year-old gelding Chancy Si to victory by half of a length as 2-1 favourite, and he steered another favourite, the 7-5 bet Goldleafed Mirror, to a 3-1/2 length triumph in the ninth race. On Sunday, Ramgeet again won the day’s first race, coming from behind to post a five-length win aboard 3-1 second favourite Special Willy. His richest win of the weekend came in Sunday’s ninth race, a US$30,000 Starter Allowance event, in which he guided the eight-year-old gelding Sir Dorset to victory at odds of 10-1.
In a tight three-horse rush at the finish, Ramgeet prevailed by a length aboard Sir Dorset, topping Pleasant Company (4-1), with the 7-5 favourite Tenacious Affair a further neck behind in third. Ramgeet, whose classic wins include victories at home in Jamaica and in Trinidad and Tobago, has also ridden successfully in Florida and Ohio. He shares sixth in the Mountaineer Park standings with David McFadden, 31 winners adrift of runaway leader Deshawn Parker (53).
