PowerGen skills training for young cricketers

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board are making every effort to climb back to the top rung of the ladder of the region with emphasis on skills training for  young cricketers.

Over the weekend a course ended for new  inductees at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre, Balmain, Couva. The programme took place from October 24 to December 11 for 15 promising players and was sponsored by the Power Generating Company (PowerGen) of Trinidad and Tobago. Players were involved in sessions specialising in physical training, diet and nutrition, time management, batting, bowling and fielding skills, mental preparedness, game approach and game sense, and ability to analyse matches at various stages, concentration, history of National and West Indies cricket, studying profiles of great West Indies players, breathing exercises, and developing sharp reflexes.

The squad comprised: Afzal Dean, Farnell Ryan, Imran Khan, Davindra Krishna, Kyron Lynch, Atiba Alert, Satish Naidoo, Alan Mahabir, Sanjeev Gooljar, Sean Seloch, Brent Harriot, Avalon Cuffy, Samuel Felix, Nicholas Petrock and Reyad Emrith.

Among the facilitators were Kelvin Williams, Dave Cumberbatch, Kumar Rampat, Dr Terrence Babwah, Kem Jokhoo, Zainool Macumm, Dinanath Ramnarine, Andy Ganteaume, Nyron Asgarali, Vanessa Baksh, Baldath Mahabir. Robin Singh videotaped the youngsters at various stages in training and will be presenting each inductee with a copy of the tape so that they could study their individual approach to the game and correct their  weaknesses.
