Woman held in $1.5M G&L robbery

A 30-year-old woman wanted for questioning about the larceny of $1.5 million in electronic items from G and L Electronics warehouse was among 25 persons arrested in an early morning exercise carried out in Central Division yesterday.

The woman was arrested by Supt Dillon of the Firearms Interdiction Unit. She was quizzed yesterday and investigators believe that more arrests are imminent. Last week, two men and two women staged a robbery at G and L warehouse and stole the electronic items and over $75,000 in cash. During the same exercise, officers seized three stolen vehicles and arrested three persons. They also seized a quantity of electronic items. Investigators believe the four who carried out the robbery are part of a gang.

Four persons wanted on outstanding warrants for questioning into a series of robberies were also arrested. Officers also executed search warrants and several drug dens were raided.  The exercise was co-ordinated by ACP Oswyn Allard and Supt Errol Denoon. Other officers included Inspector Burt Raphael, Sgts Housend, Lumy, Sylvester and Ag Sgt Ajith Persad. It formed part of the anti-crime initiative introduced for the Christmas period.

Soldiers assigned to Central Division assisted in the exercise as well as officers from the Inter Agency Task Force. Similar exercises are planned for other divisions and senior officers said yesterday that the intention is to ensure that citizens feel a sense of safety and security.
