Woman held in Arouca killing
A 30-year-old woman appeared before an Arima magistrate yesterday charged with man-slaughter. Joanne Guy of Mahogany Drive, Phase One, Malabar, appeared before Ma-gistrate Gail Gonzales charged with the killing of Everald Gill, who was beaten and stabbed to death last Saturday. Guy was not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably.
Guy was charged on Monday by Sgt Ragoonanan of the Arouca Police Station following investigations into the death of the 35-year-old labourer. According to police reports, Gill was beaten and stabbed to death last Saturday morning following an altercation with a group of people while liming at the La Luna bar in Arouca. Police reports state the group of six men and one woman beat the 35-year-old labourer, stabbed him and then dumped his lifeless body in the middle of the road, just opposite the bar where the altercation started.
An oncoming car also ran over the dead man’s body. Two persons were initially held by police officers on Saturday for questioning. Following investigations into the matter, however, the 30-year-old unemployed woman was the only one charged for the killing. After appearing before the magistrate, the matter was postponed to Decem-ber 18 as the accused was not represented by an attorney. Sgt Ragoonanan of the Arouca Police Station is investigating the incident.
