Speed kings renew rivalry on Saturday

Cash Wager, Napoleon and Sugar Mike, the first three finishers in last year’s Stewards Cup will renew rivalry on Saturday in this year’s edition on the Betting Levy Board sponsored card at Santa Rosa Park Arima.

The trio is among the field of eight runners going after rich purses in the 1200 metres sprints highlighting Saturday’s ten-race card. Also making the line-up in the $100,000 event known as the Sprint Championship of the Southern Caribbean is Movietowne Magic and Miss Lover Lover. Movietown Magic showed his sprinting ability with victory in the Imported three-year-old Sprint Stakes in March and will be partnered by George Duffield on Saturday. Duffield is a regular visitor to our shores and was the holder of the record for scoring the most victories in a day on the Santa Rosa Park racecourse.

The Englishman is expected to fly in today for the tough assignment. Duffield has been booked for five rides on the card, among which is Underdinfluence in the Derek Cozier Memorial Trophy (Turf Classic), the co-feature on penultimate day’s racing this season. Miss Lover Lover, another representing the three-year-old group in the prestigious sprint, goes into the event with consecutive victories under the guidance of Navin Mangalee, who again has been called for the job. The card, sponsored to the tune of $320,000 has attracted at total of 92 runners.
