Man jailed for squeezing woman’s buttocks

A MARABELLA man who pleaded guilty to squeezing a woman’s buttocks (indecent assault), as well as five other charges, was sent to jail for a year by a San Fernando magistrate before whom the accused appeared yesterday. Apart from having to answer the charge of indecent assault, Harold Jeremiah, 42, was also charged with possession of marijuana, assaulting a policeman, resisting arrest, malicious damage to a policeman’s uniform and escaping lawful custody.

Jeremiah appeared before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court to face the charges, for which he was sentenced to a total of 27 months imprisonment, but will only serve 12 since the sentences were ordered to run concurrently. Court prosecutor Cpl Wendell Fernando explained to the court that around 4.47 pm on Wednesday, the 24-year-old woman, who is an accountant, was standing at the side of Union Road, Marabella. She later stopped some Marabella police officers who were passing in a marked vehicle and complained that Jeremiah had, a few moments ago, squeezed her buttocks and smiled at her.
