MPATT wants to see qualifications of UN docs
The Medical Professionals Association of TT (MPATT) is asking to see the qualifications of all the doctors recruited by the United Nations Development Programme to work in TT. MPATT’s Philip Ayoung-Chee has written to the Health Ministry and United Nations Development Programme seeking their curricula vitae because some of these doctors are to mentor and train TT doctors. “It is therefore important that their postgraduate qualifications be clearly stated.”
Ayoung-Chee said the volunteers are receiving $19,500 monthly without having to work on weekends and public holidays. They must also be given adequate periods of rest and relaxation. While the doctors received this money, he referred to the $13,885 proposed for the Regional Health Authority House Officer in 2003. Referring to the monthly payment of $190,000 to UNDP for administering a programme, Ayoung-Chee said it took doctors from countries in extreme need. He questioned why the doctors are not encouraged to serve in their own countries.
