New cops told: Don’t let nation down
IN a speech curtailed by inclement weather recently appointed Minister of National Security Martin Joseph warned the 271 new probationers who passed out yesterday evening, the first batch from a programme code-named “Project SRPs 1000,” to above all things “don’t let the nation down.”
“Recruits of people who are now passing out we hope that you come into the service with dedication and commitment, a career in the police service is not like any other field of endeavour, it requires persons who recognise that being in the service is an opportunity to protect and serve. It is a calling of no other calling but unfortunately many police over the years have betrayed that commitment to “Protect and Serve.” We expect you will come with that dedication and commitment. There are too many people skeptical of the police. A lot is expected of you. “Don’t disappoint yourselves, don’t let yourselves down, don’t let your family down, don’t let your friends down, don’t let your community down and most of all don’t let your nation down.”
