Yes and no, Mr Vidale

THE EDITOR: Mr Reginald Vidale, Chairman of the Eric Williams Memorial Committee, in a recent interview suggested that the presence of cadets in our schools could play a critical role in preventing further incidents. Mr Vidale lamented that cadets should be given authority in instituting and regulating standards of conduct in schools and they should function as a sort of juvenile court.

This writer fully endorses such a move and in fact supports Vidale’s initiative. However, the idea of Vidale calling for a portrait of late Prime Minister Eric Williams to be displayed in every school which, according to Vidale, will help students identify with their past, a leader who has led by example, in my mind is totally out of the question. This writer strongly suggests that a portrait of Jesus Christ will be more appropriate. He led by example. Quite frankly Reggie, a crucifix is urgently required in every single home and all commercial buildings throughout our land, more so in those buildings owned by the Government of today and those of the past.
