Elders agenda is to rehabilitate

THE EDITOR: There seems to be an attempt to forget the circumstances under which the Elders of Laventille was formed. The present Leader of the Opposition during the 1991-1995 period had targetted the constituency of Morvant/Laventille East as an adopted area since Mr Kenneth Collis was viewed as a weak representative. This Council of Elders is now headed by a political activist who once belonged to a party that is reeling from the intercourse it had with the rising sun and this would somewhat defeat the purpose for which it is formed. The present mandate of the Elders is to influence the gangsters away from the lifestyle of crime: a non-political aim.
