Windies get a washout

EAST LONDON: Rain prevented any play on the scheduled third day of the four-day cricket tour match between West Indies and South African club side Border at Mercedes Benz Park yesterday. The umpires called off play for the day at lunch time, due to a wet outfield and continuous rain. The West Indies had ended day two on 168 for three in their second innings — an overall lead of 195 runs — with Ramnaresh Sarwan (71) and Vasbert Drakes (24) the not out batsmen.

Summarised scores: WEST INDIES 278 - Shivnarine Chanderpaul 98, Brian Lara 81, Carlton Baugh 29, Dwayne Smith 22; Tyron Henderson 5-57, Pieter Strydom 2-41, Andrew Pringle 2-67 and 168-3 - Ramnaresh Sarwan 71 not out, Smith 31, Baugh 30, Vasbert Drakes 24 not out; Strydom 2-30 vs BORDER 251- Strydom 74, Michael Smith 32, Steven Pope 28, Mark Bruyns 26, Abongile Sodumo 25, Burton de Wett 23; Adam Sanford 5-53, Dave Mohammed 3-89, Drakes 2-21.
