Dwayne Bravo to miss weekend trial matches

Talented middle-order batsman Dwayne Bravo will miss this weekend’s trial match at the National Cricket Centre. He will only resume playing when the North/South Classic bowls off on January 2 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

This was revealed by manager of the Trinidad and Tobago team, Omar Khan yesterday. “Dwayne injured his finger during last Saturday’s play at the Cricket Centre and will be out for one week,” said Khan. “We have given the players a break for the Christmas period and have asked them to turn out on Saturday afternoon when the third trial gets going. Play on the opening day will get going at 12.30 pm in order to give the groundsmen a chance to work on the wicket. “They will not be working during the Christmas holidays and hence we will need to give them some time on Saturday morning in order to prepare the pitch for cricket,” he said.

Khan said he was very impressed with the batting and particularly enjoyed the contributions of Aneil Kanhai, Imran Jan and Ricardo Powell. Jan scored 147, while Kanhai also got a century and Powell stroked a robust 88. “It is very heartening to see runs flowing from the bats of our players. It was been so long since over 500 runs were scored by a team during a local trial and over the weekend Imran Jan’s team achieved that. “We are looking forward to great things again on the weekend and during the North/South Classic as we fine-tune the players for the opening match of the series on January 9 at Guaracara Park against the Leeward Islands,” the PowerGen engineer said. This weekend’s trial match ends on Monday. Play on Sunday and Monday will begin at 10 am.
