WI players party night away

EAST LONDON: West Indies manager Ricky Skerritt has balked at newspaper reports that members of the team were seen partying at a night club until the early hours of the morning in the middle of the cricket tour match against Border.

The Daily Despatch reported yesterday that a number of the West Indies players, including captain Brian Lara, were spotted at an East London nightclub at 3 am on Saturday. Later that day, the Windies had to play the second day of their tour match against Border at Mercedes Benz Park. “I know nothing about it and I’m not interested in knowing anything about it, so I can’t confirm or deny it,” Skerritt said. Skerrit said that he was not remotely interested in the incident, not even if it is proved true: “No, not at all. It would not concern me.”

The match between Border and West Indies ended in a draw after rain completely washed-out the last two days. West Indies were 168 for three in the second innings, leading by 195 runs, when the rain wreaked havoc in the match. The match was part of the side’s preparation for the Second Test against South Africa beginning at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Boxing Day. South Africa lead the four-Test series 1-0 after winning the opening Test at Johannesburg by 189 runs.
