Night cricket benefit for Antoine at HC Stadium
Twenty years after the first cricket match was played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, fans can now look forward to more.
All Sports Promotions Limited will be hosting a night clash between Queen’s Park Cricket Club and Clico Preysal Cricket Club next Friday from 7.10 pm. The match is being organised as part of a benefit for former national fast bowler and Preysal player Eugene Antoine. This was revealed by director of All Sport, Anthony Harford on Friday at a press conference at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain. Clico Preysal are honouring the long standing Antoine for his contribution to the game and is hoping to raise between $25,000 to $30,000 to give to the giant fast bowler. The match, which is being sponsored by Carib Beer, will be a 25-overs affair and both teams will give part of their prize money to Antoine.
According to Harford, Clico Preysal will also stage a double-wicket tournament, a benefit dinner, a Bingo, a “Eugene Antoine Night” at the Fruta Festival later this year, as well as an invitational 30-overs match at the end of the season. The 33-year-old Antoine made his debut for Trinidad and Tobago in 1991 against Guyana at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. He played for six seasons taking 69 wickets at an average of 30.04 with a best of six wickets for 49 runs. In 1994 Antoine was selected on the West Indies “A” team to tour Canada and Bermuda. He also played against India in the 150th Indian Arrival Day Anniversary match at the Oval.
