Presidential clarifications

THE EDITOR: I refer to an article that appears in Section A of your newspaper, Tuesday January 6, 2004 under the heading “Manning’s Red House obsession.” by Michael Williams. While appreciating the writer’s solicitude, the Office of The President is of the view that certain clarifications ought to be made for the benefit of the reading public as follows:

The President’s House is in need of such repairs as would make it not feasible to have the President and his family in residence while work is ongoing. To cite one example, the roof must be repaired and if the building is occupied when the work commences, the work will be impeded. The information given in the article concerning security arrangements for the President’s person, his personal residence and The President’s House as well as escort arrangements during his journeys is not correct. Finally, the President does not receive a housing allowance. The Office of the President would deeply appreciate your publishing this letter at the earliest opportunity and takes this occasion to convey to you and your staff best wishes for success during the year 2004.
Yours sincerely

LENORE S DORSET (MRS)
Executive Assistant to His Excellency the President
