Bajans thrash Guyana by 10 wkts

BRIDGETOWN: Barbados wrapped up an early 10-wicket victory over Guyana yesterday, the fourth day of their opening-round Carib Beer Cricket Series regional cricket match at Kensington Oval.

Guyana, with an overnight 307 for six in their second innings, folded for 321 in the first 45 minutes. The home team reached their victory target of eight without any setbacks. Guyana scored 108 and 321. Barbados had 422 for seven declared and eight for no wickets. Ian Bradshaw spearheaded Barbados’ effort with two wickets on his way to figures of four for 69.

The 29-year-old broke a seventh wicket stand of 70 between Mahendra Nagamootoo and Travis Dowlin that stalled the Bajans on Sunday.Left-hander Nagamootoo was leg before for 44 (six fours, 82 balls). In Bradshaw’s next over, he accounted for Guyana skipper Neil McGarrell (1), who pulled a catch to square leg. The innings quickly subsided as Dowlin’s innings of 40 (five fours, 117 balls) was ended by a run out by Tino Best and Esuan Crandon was leg before to Pedro Collins. Best (three for 52) supported Bradshaw while Collins and Ryan Nurse claimed a wicket apiece.

Kurt Wilkinson, a first innings century-maker, finished off the match with a lofted boundary off fast bowler Esuan Crandon. Barbados hosts Windward Islands when the second round begins on Friday, while Guyana travel  to Kingston to take on Jamaica.
