Colin Murray slams local cricketers
THE 40-OVER Sunday League cricket competition was bowled off with 16 clubs in Division One and 11 of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board last weekend at eight venues thr-oughout the country.
Focus fell at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal where last year’s winners, Clico Preysal bowed to Powergen by two runs in a rain-affected match. A formal opening ceremony took place before the start of the match when Colin Murray, Marketing Officer of Carib Beer, sponsors of several competitions this year costing up to $310,000, criticised players for “not giving of their best on the field of play.”
He stressed that players “were cutting a sorry picture by poor performances when instead they should be playing at a higher level because they were getting much more now than in years gone by.” In Sunday’s match Powergen made 159 for seven wickets in 39 overs and Preysal were asked to make 108 runs in 26 overs, but they fell for 106.
