‘Ochro’ Bailey gets Trumpet on January 30
THE fight is on at last!
Persistent Percy “Ochro” Bailey will get his chance to blow his trumpet on January 30 with the 147-lb national boxing title on the line. Bailey, who moaned that champion Floyd Trumpet had been avoiding him for some time, said yesterday: “I have to give him two beatings, one for prolonging the fight and the other in the fight.” “Trumpet will feel it is two men in the ring, the amount of blows I will give him. He will beg me to stand still,” a confident Bailey said.
Bailey said he has met with promoter Cecil Forde who assured him contracts will be signed today at the Tigers Boxing Gym, Prince Street, Port-of-Spain. He pointed out that all was set for him and Trumpet to fight on Boxing Day last, but the champion ducked out of the bout claiming he was not fit. “It is I to say I am not fit since I have not fought for nearly two years. “I know he is afraid of me. I will take away his title on January 30. He cannot hit me because I am slippery,” Bailey said.
