Printery retro n-ballers start on winning note
PRINTERY led by ex-national goal-shoot Elsa Clouden whippped Avengers 26-20 in the new Retro Division (over-40) as action in the 14th edition of the All Sectors Netball League got underway at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo. Clouden scored 11 goals from 13 attempts, while Jacqueline Morris had 15 of 24 for the winners who led all the way, 7-5; 13-11 and 19-15 at the quarter stages. Marion Mitchell scored eight goals, Lystra Hosten 10 and Christine Forde two for Avengers. After trailing 8-4 at the end of the first quarter, Fire rebounded for a comfortable 30-23 victory over Les Enfants also on Monday.
Sheryl Lun Semper scored her only attempt, Cheryl Francis had 15 of 20 and Debra Alie 14 of 17 for the Fire “vets.” Joanne Payne scored six goals and Margaret Noel 17 for the veteran San Fernandians. Police cruised to a 36-21 win over TSTT in the other match with Lynette Duncan scoring 10 of 17 attempts and Beverly Rodgers who shot accurately, for 26 of 29. Alison John got 14 goals and Wendy Sennette seven for the “Hello Girls.” Police won both the march past parade and opening knockout titles when the league was formally launched on Saturday night at the same venue. The Policewomen who last November won the Caribbean Club Championships, edged Caribbean Facilities Corporation 5-4 in the 10-minute American Style Championship Division knockout final. And Fire Services downed Civilian Conservation Corp 5-1 to take the Alternative Division title. Defence Force were the defending champs in both divisions.
