Mucurapo Senior drub Carapichaima n-ballers
TRINIDAD and Tobago netball princesses Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive (North) sounded a strong warning to all pretenders, when they drubbed Central Zone runners-up Carapichaima 57-2 in Group “B” of the British Gas Secondary Schools Netball League at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Mucurapo, on Tuesday. Goal-shoot Afeisha Noel was in tremendous form, scoring 42 goals from her 51 attempts, while Akesha Mark had 15 of 22 for the champs who led 15-0; 30-2 and 45-2 at the end of the 10-minute quarter stages. Alana Thomassian scored the both goals for Carapichaima.
But Eastern winners Sangre Grande Educational Institute dumped a tardy Diego Martin Junior Secondary 29-9 in the other match in Group “B” The Grande girls led all the way —- 9-1; 16-2; 23-5 at the quarter stages — in a match which saw the girls from Diego arriving late for their fixture. Murlin Paul led her team with 18 goals from 29 attempts while Avianne Archie had 11 from 17. Asha McDowell scored eight goals from nine attemps and Lisa Headley, one of three, for Diego. Mucurapo Junior Secondary (North) turned back determined East runners-up Toco Composite 22-18 in the most exciting fixture on Tuesday.
The Mucurapo girls led all the way in the Group “A” match, 6-8; 14-9; 19-13 at the quarter stages, but they had to pull out all the stops. National Under-17 star Nariba Grant had 12 goals from 17 attempts, Aniola Camejo, eight of 15; and Nicholan Skeete, two of three, for Mucurapo. Zola Modeste netted 14 of 19 and Tracey Courtney had four of 13 for Toco. And Success/Laventille Composite (North) easily whipped Holy Faith Convent (Central) 37-11 in the other Group “A” match. Goal-shoot Tenisha Price scored 18 of 30 attempts and Ghaailiya O’Brien had 19 of 24 for the winners, while Andrea Kinsale scored nine of 13 and Keverne Hunte, two of three, for the convent girls who trailed 11-1, 20-3 and 29-7. The action shifts to Point Fortin today, when South East winners Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive take on Cedros Composite the South West runners-up; and Fyzabad Composite the South West champs meet San Fernando East Junior Secondary from 1 pm.
