Morvant/Laventille b-ballers win 31-7
Morvant/Laventille Secondary School Under-15 girl basketballers had a relatively quiet afternoon as they trampled Holy Name Convent 31-7 in their Schools League encounter at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, yesterday. At the half Morvant/Laventille led 17-0 despite showing up with a five-member team. Holy Name should have pounced on the opportunity to foul out key members off their attack but the scrappy nature of the match did not allow for any such strategy.
Holy Name’s Geraldine Baptiste put the bit between her teeth and made a valiant attempt to tip the scale in her team’s direction but her seven points, which included a long three-point jumpert, went unsupported by her teammates. Instead it was the Morvant/Laventille pair of Renecha Delecia and Tiffany Christian who took advantage of the unstructured mis-match and scored a match- high 14 and an equally important 10 points. Diego Martin Secondary were gifted their fixture against Diego Martin Junior Secondary as their opponents failed to show. Matches continue today at the St Paul’s Street Sports Facilty, Port-of-Spain, between the Under-17 teams of Belmont Secondary and Trinity College at 2 pm; and St. Mary’s College and Tranquillity Government Secondary in the second fixture at 3 pm.
