Windwards crush Guyana by 131 runs

ROSEAU: The Windward Islands beat Guyana by 131 runs yesterday in their third-round Carib Beer Cricket Series match at the Botanical Gardens in Roseau.

Guyana batted poorly and went into lunch at 65 without loss needing 190 to win. But after lunch, the Guyanese scored 43 runs in 150 minutes and lost six wickets. In the post-tea session, Guyanese batsmen gave little resistance and four wickets were lost for an additional 13 runs. Only openers Sewnarine Chattergoon who made 43 and Krishna Arjune 41 reached double figures. Darren Sammy was named “Man-of-the-Match” with his score of 87 in the Windward Islands second innings. He also took five wickets for 20 runs in Guyana’s second innings. The Windwards face Trinidad in the tournament’s next round starting on Friday and Guyana hosts the Leeward Islands.
