Urban Challenge replaces CariFin series

The CariFin Four-Part series will begin with the two and a half mile One-Lap Savannah Race on February 4. This year’s edition however features some changes in format, which is a  welcome breath of fresh air into an already highly anticipated event among the financial institutions of Trinidad and Tobago. Most noticeable will be the name change from “CariFin Four-Part Series”, a name which has endured for 12 years, to “Urban Challenge.” There will also be an introduction of a “Think and Run” event which is a scavenger hunt/road race hybrid.

Among the invited corporate citizens are First Citizen’s and Scotiabank CEOs Larry Howai and Richard Young, the Deputy Governor and senior managers of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. Urban Challenge is an effort by CariFin to encourage employees in the financial sector to lead healthy lifestyles through promoting physical activity. This year’s series features seven events across Trinidad and Tobago. The One-Lap Savannah Race/ Launch gets the ball running this year, to be followed by the Green Mile on February 11 with the Botanic Cross Challenge following on March 3.

The Think and Run is on March 10; Fitness Burnout on March 17; the Torch Run on April 17; and ends with the Cross Country Run and Family Day on April 25. Last year’s standout Joel Bharrat will be keen on defending his One-Lap Savannah, Green Mile and Botanic Cross Challenge titles and possibly adding other jewels to his crown. Ochenna Ogbue, the reigning One-Lap Savannah and Green Mile queen will also be in line for more outstanding performances in 2004.
