Barataria man found dead at home

A 39-year-old mason is the 21st murder victim of the year. Arthur Peters of Egypt Village, Sawmill, Barataria, was found dead in his home by a relative yesterday.

According to reports, residents reported hearing several shots being fired in the area. Shortly after, Peters’ relative went to check and found him lying on his back, on a mattress which had been placed on the floor. Police have not yet ascertained a motive for the killing but residents said Peters was known to have been involved in the use of illicit drugs. The body remained on the scene for almost half of the day yesterday as police officers kept guard at the house, waiting for the arrival of the DMO. The scene was visited by Snr Sup Waldron Bishop, who told reporters there was no blood on the scene and the body could not be moved until the DMO came. Residents could not say whether Peters had a wife or children. Officers of the Task Force visited the scene, including officers from the Barataria Police Station. Investigations are continuing.
